Starting Point:
Cairns or Port Douglas
Cairns is the major city in the region with an international airport, while Port Douglas is a popular tourist town about an hour’s drive north of Cairns.
You can fly into Cairns and rent a car there or start your journey from Port Douglas.
Cairns/Port Douglas to Mossman Gorge (20 miles/32 kilometers)
Start your road trip by visiting Mossman Gorge, a stunning rainforest area known for its crystal-clear swimming holes and walking trails.
Take a walk through the gorge, swim in the refreshing waters, and learn about the local Indigenous culture.
Mossman Gorge to Daintree River Crossing (13 miles/21 kilometers)
Drive north to the Daintree River Crossing, where you’ll need to take a car ferry across the river.
Enjoy the scenic drive through the Daintree Rainforest, one of the oldest rainforests on Earth.
Daintree River Crossing to Cape Tribulation (25 miles/40 kilometers)
